Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach reading intervention to 1st through 5th grade students who are two or more grade levels behind in their reading. Many of my older students are still working to master foundational level skills. The books we have to work with are very much written for primary learners, which can be a bit embarrassing for students preparing to transition into middle school.
Upper elementary students deserve books that are written at their instructional reading level, but are also written and illustrated to support their interest.
Books such as these will help to keep them engaged and motivated to strengthen their reading skills.
