My Students

"The number one problem in today's generation and economy is lack of financial literacy." - Alan Greenspan

My students have a great love of learning and exploration of new ideas, and it is never to early to start building your financial literacy!

They come from diverse backgrounds and have many different learning styles, strengths, and needs. They learn best when they are able to explore and create their own learning through engaging experiences. The more excited they become about a project or topic, the more they are able to gain from it.

Our Title I school is located in a rural town and we are a very close-knit community. Many of the families at our school have been in the district for generations.

My Project

As an adult, I know how important financial literacy can be for the success of your future. I fully believe it is never too early to become more financially savvy and the kit I am requesting is a great way to help my 5th graders with that knowledge.

The Saving & Spending Financial Literacy kit is packed with must-have tools for helping kids learn to manage their finances.

We will be using this kit to complete a lesson that emphasizes the difference between trading, bargaining and purchasing. They will also learn to save money and watch the market value of items they need to purchase in order to create the most diverse fruit and vegetable stand or grocery store. Students will only have a set amount of money and certain fruits and vegetables. Students will also be told whether they have a grocery store or a roadside stand, which will impact their ability to barter, trade and sell. Through this lesson, students will understand that purchasing, bartering and trading are used in different situations. We will use all of the materials from the kit for this engaging and real world lesson.

After the lesson, the students will have all of the wonderful materials to continue practicing their financial skills! Thank you for any support you can offer to my students and their future financial success!
