It's More Than Recycling, It's Making a Difference!

My students need recycling bins in each classroom to encourage our entire school community to recycle!

My Students

The students in my classroom are motivated and very curious. They are energetic learners and eager to explore the world around them. Our school is very different in that we have students from every social and economic status. They come from many different backgrounds but have the same desire to want to help make the world a better place.

My goal is to provide my students with lessons that go beyond the classroom.

I want them to learn to take pride in the beautiful world we live in and for them to know they can make a difference!

My Project

Our students need recycling bins to start our recycling program. Our third graders have been working hard to prepare slideshows of what recycling is and why we should recycle. They are going to present these slideshows and place a recycling bin to each homeroom, along with other areas around the school. We are recycling cardboard, paper, aluminum cans and plastic bottles. My third graders will be in charge of collecting materials each week. To bring the math in, we will weigh the amount each grade level collects and keep data on the materials we are saving from the landfill. They will also be creating recycling posters to place around the school to remind students the importance of recycling.

My hope is that using recycling bins within the classrooms will motivate our students to recycle not just at school but when they are away from school as well.

The recycled material will teach students that everyone can take part in keeping our school and our Earth clean. I want them to know that they can make a difference!
