My Students
My students are sixth and seventh graders in a small middle school.
Our 325 students range from the mentally impaired and learning disabled to the gifted with every ability level in between.
They all are excited about learning, however.
We get no money for supplies, consumables, or new equipment. Everything we get has to come from grants or fundraisers. With every department, music group and athletic team raising funds, it becomes very difficult for the community to support all of our needs.
My Project
My classes have grown throughout the year and it looks like they'll be even larger next year. We desperately need two additional microscopes to use with the seven we already have. We use the microscopes first in sixth grade when we study pond water organisms and learn to use the scopes. We use them in seventh and eighth grade when we study anatomy and cells. We also use them in forensics class when we look at hairs, fibers, soil and other microscopic forensic evidence. Our microscopes are used often and if we don't have enough for each group, it makes it difficult for each student to have adequate time to see what we're studying.
