My students need 30 copies of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle and 20 copies of A to Z Mysteries Super Edition #4: Sleepy Hollow Sleepover.
Listening and speaking is a forgotten art in today's technological world. My students are working on being more successful listeners and speakers through engaging literature. By years end, I would love my students to understand how to communicate effectively through their own story or legend.
My school is full of eager students who need to be engaged in their work not bored by it!
These students, from various economic surroundings and cultures, come together like a melting pot and support each others literacy. We are struggling to be middle class in an area which is not bouncing back economically. Our school supports all students through programs and endeavors, including Fine Art clubs, STEM clubs, all of which must be funded at the school level.
In classrooms, we range from non-English speakers, to average students, to the gifted. This makes for students who support each other but have a wide range of literacy skills. Remediation and enrichment is an hourly occurrence. We work hard to meet the needs of every student, every day!
My Project
Fourth grade students are enthralled with The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. This project will fund copies of the book. Students can delve into Washington Irving"s use of unique, obscure vocabulary, while understanding how an author creates suspense and intrigue in writing books.
Goals include-
--Tenacity and stamina- working through hard work
--Listen well- using context clues to understand higher level vocabulary
--Speak well- create an oral story of a person legend
--Write well- creating suspense in writing- write their own suspense
stories.
The more we read, the better we get.
The better we get, the more we read. Your donation will support increased literacy for my students. Students must learn to listen, speak, read and write well to be successful in the future. It is our goal to support them in getting there!
