My Students

Curious and problem solvers are two words I use to describe my students. I am the GT specialist at my school in St. Paul, MN. I work with students in grades K through 5 on extending and deepening the curriculum for them.

I feel like I am so fortunate to be able to work with kids to help them realize and develop their passions, interests and gifts.

I believe students learn best through hands-on and solving challenges, especially in collaboration with others. I use games a lot in my classroom to foster communication, engagement and critical thinking. A number of my students are visually-spatially gifted, an area that is not frequently addressed in an academic context. I would like to have class sets of visual-spatial logic games and puzzles for teachers to check out to use with their classes and for me to use with groups of students.

My Project

Many gifted (as well as those not identified as gifted) benefit from developing their spatial and logical reasoning skills. These are skills that are transferable to success in a variety of subjects and fields, particularly the growing field of computer programming.

Children learn best when engaged with others and having fun.

The games that this project will fund allow kids to do just that. Mastermind, Qbitz, Kanoodle, Rush Hour and Blockus are highly rated games that will allow for just such engagement. The origami paper requested also support visual spatial skills, geometry vocabulary development, fine motor development and mindfulness. Thanks for considering funding this project!
