Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
If given the proper materials and tools to be successful in the classroom, my students will thrive. I want to be able to provide writing utensils and paper to students who need it. They are essential tools students need daily in high school. Not having the proper tools, like pencils, markers, and index cards, to succeed is not an obstacle I would ever want my students to encounter within my classroom. I promote an equitable classroom.
I want my students to feel like they could do anything they set their mind to.
I would love for my classroom to bring joy to education. The students truly enjoy getting competitive when learning content and I would use the buzzer tower in vocabulary and review games. The index cards and flip chart paper will also be used for students to work collaboratively and get creative while they learn. It is hard to get students engaged in history content but by using fun activities and new materials I can draw them in. I want my classroom environment to support the students in following their passions.
I teach Modern History of Hawaii and our Hawaiian flag had recently gotten ripped so we are hoping to bring back the Hawaiian pride in the classroom with new flags. With the new materials, my students can feel pride in themselves and achieve success.
Coronavirus has also greatly impacted my students and their ability to feel safe in the classroom so I wanted to get more cleaning supplies to keep my classes safe. Many students are immunocompromised or go home to family members who are immunocompromised so I want to ensure that my students are not passing viruses around. The paper towels, tissues, and Lysol wipes will help my students feel safe in the classroom.
