This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are incredible! They come to school every day and try their best to listen and follow directions.

My students have moderate/severe autism.

They sometimes have difficulties with sensory processing, and could use some extra help staying calm at school. We give them structure and routines throughout the day to help them organize themselves. We also offer positive behavior support strategies to encourage them to engage in positive school behaviors. Each day, we are reminding students at various times to "calm your body down" when they become disregulated.

My Project

My students need sensory processing tools to help stay calm at school, including fidgets, weighted lap pillows and desk-er-cisers. The resources I am requesting will help my students stay calm and ready to learn at school. These tools will be used at our centers as a support to students to help them stay engaged and remain focused. Some of my students get a little "wiggly" during the day, so I would like to provide appropriate means to channel the wiggles and still be ready to learn. Weighted lap pillows provide gentle pressure on their legs and help them remain centered. Desk-er-cisers attach to their chair and give them something to bounce their legs and feet on while remaining seated.

These materials will be used by multiple students throughout the day, every day at school, and for years to come.

They will improve my students lives by supporting their sensory needs at school.
