This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a dual language teacher in an urban charter school. Our students come from low-income families. Many of them have one or more parents who speak a language at home other than English. Our school's focus is to help children become healthy on the inside so that they can perform better in school. That's why we do an hour of gym every day, we do yoga all the time, and we serve very healthy meals. It's amazing!
Next year I will be teaching 4th grade dual language. Part of the responsibilities of a 4th grade teacher is to make sure students can read and write in cursive. We currently don't have very many tools to help them with this skill. Also, we are lacking a timer that would help us stay on schedule.
I found a notebook that students can use all year long to learn and practice writing in cursive. It's a write on/wipe off notebook. I requested enough so that each student can have their own. I also am requesting a composition book so that students can take notes on whatever it is they are learning. They will have other notebooks as well, but as the composition notebook looks so official, it will be the notebook that only allows cursive writing. I also found a large timer that the students and I can use throughout the day to help us stay on schedule.
Your donation will make it possible for my students to learn to write in cursive in a fun way. I know they will be excited about taking out their special cursive notebooks. Thank you so much for your consideration!
