My students need 30 calculators and a storage caddy to help with our new math adoption.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. De Bow's classroom raised $319
This project is fully funded
My Students
Our district adopted a great new math program! We have workbooks and textbooks and manipulatives! But, we don't have calculators. The curriculum gives directions for some fabulous math games that require students to use calculators. Students are allowed to use calculators on the state test too!
My students are great kids who deserve the same advantages as other students.
My school has finally been identified at a Title-1 school, but we are not able to use those funds, as we are in the middle of writing our Title-1 plan. A large majority of my students receive free or reduced lunch. 35% of my class speak a language other than English at home. 14% of my class receives special education.
My Project
These durable, solar calculators should last for years. My students will be able to become more familiar with using calculators through the various games provided in our curriculum and THEN use them on the state test. We have already missed out on games that improve number sense (Getting to One), place value (Fishing for Digits), and multiplication skills (Baseball Multiplication). We will revisit those games and learn more (Top it Games, Beat the Calculator, Calculator 10,000, Fraction/Percent Concentration, etc.)! Calculators are also a great way to modify work for struggling students so that they can still learn concepts without being held up by the computation.
Kids in a higher socio-economic area would have calculators.
This is an advantage my students don't have. If we are going to level the playing field, all students need to have access to tools that will help them be successful. When students feel successful they begin to see themselves as more capable which tends to lead to more success.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
