My sixth grade students struggle with learning on a daily basis. Integrating technology will give my students the motivation and confidence needed to build the desire to learn.
I teach in a large, diverse K-8 high poverty, high crime area school in Pennsylvania.
100% of the children are eligible for free breakfast and lunch. The children come to school eager to learn. They are from various living situations, such as single parents, foster homes, or extended family living. Most don't have Internet access or computers at home to practice skills taught in school. They have different abilities and disabilities. Some of these include ADHD, ADD, emotional needs, special education needs, and English as a Second Language. I strive to build their confidence in what they can do, not emphasize what they can't do.
My students learn best by being active participants in their own learning. Sometimes they feel frustrated. Please give them a chance to engage in their education.
My Project
An air conditioner would be life changing in my classroom. Our third floor room gets incredibly hot, and we are unable to open the windows most of the time because of insects and rodents. Spring, summer, and even fall can be very warm in Philadelphia, especially with the windows closed and over 30 people in a room.
We do a lot of art projects as activities to our science and literacy learning.
Some children can express themselves better through the arts, so the colored pencils will be helpful. They will make a literacy response from the book that we're requesting along with other diverse books that we already have.
Many of my students suffer from asthma and other ailments that are aggravated in the heat. Having an air conditioner would help keep my students focused and healthy at the same time.
It would be such a blessing to have my students learn in a cool and comfortable classroom.
