This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am teaching in a 4th grade ICT classroom located in NYC. The class contains 19 students in all, 7 girls and 12 boys. Majority of the students are Hispanic/Latino and many of them speak in Spanish when they are at home. With economic disadvantages, all students are receiving both breakfast and lunch in school. Being an ICT (inclusion) class 15 students have IEP’s to support their learning challenges. A common challenge many of them face staying focused on their learning.

My Project

Hi there! We are looking to get a portable air conditioner donated for our 4th grade classroom. Our classroom is located on the 3rd floor and is directly above the school playground. As summertime is quickly approaching, with it comes the hot weather. While it can be a struggle to learn in the heat, opening our windows is even more of a challenge! The happy sounds of students playing in the yard is entertaining but it can distract us from our learning goals. A simple solution for us would be a portable air conditioner!!!! This way when it’s noisy outside we can keep our windows closed and learn comfortably. :)
