Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Poland, Ecuador, Albania, China, and Greece are just some of the countries that describe the children I service. I have many students who enter speaking little to no English. Although they may all come from different countries, they have the same goal in mind. They all want to come to school to learn and have fun. This school is located in a low-income/high poverty school district. When students come to school, they are granted the chance to forget anything bad going on outside school and learn and grow alongside their friends.
My ENL students bring such diversity into the classroom.
They not only learn in the classroom but are given the chance to teach others about where they come from as well. They are proud of where they are from, but also excited to learn about America. They are eager to learn English to communicate with all their new friends. These students are our future and I want to give them the chance to become successful students even if their English language skills are limited.
My Project
Every year, I have students who speak little to no English. They're then expected to take a test on reading, writing, speaking, and listening at the end of the year. I want to make reading fun for my students. I also want them to know that they can do it.
With resources that make learning fun, my students will be excited to learn this new language and succeed in all subject areas.
I teach students from kindergarten to grade 4 during the school day. The Touch and Read Phonics Match will help my students who are just beginning their reading journey. The High-Interest Intervention Reading Folders will help prepare my students and show them a love for reading. I will keep students engaged with these wonderful resources and use the Behavior Management Pocket Chart to reward the students. I believe that with these resources, my students will become lifelong learners and truly learn the fun of reading.
