Last year, with the help of donors like you, I was able to start a classroom library. Finding and purchasing story books and chapter books in French can be very difficult for teachers that don't live anywhere near Canada. It is especially tricky since I need to buy books for beginners, intermediate readers and a few advanced readers. I currently have a small selection of books for my students to read but we would appreciate having more books to choose from. That is why my students and I could really use some extra help.
Reading books in French is not only fun but also a great way to learn the French language.
Students can learn more about francophone culture from reading Reves de l'ile, Mambo Va a L'ecole and Les Etudiants a L'ecole de la Peur. In addition to this, I think it will be fun to teach them some Haitian Creole from the Haitian Creole Phrasebook, and show them how it is similar, yet different from the French we learn in school. The students will also be able to learn new vocabulary words and see grammar being used correctly in context as they read these story and chapter books.
I'm looking forward to adding 2 Harry Potter books, a Diary of a Wimpy Kid book, Pride and Prejudice, Robinson Crusoe and The Count of Monte Cristo to our classroom library for my dual immersion students to read and enjoy.
