One day I accidentally called my students "scholars", but the name stuck. They owned it and started calling themselves Scholars. My Scholars loved the idea that smart is something you become every single day. They see themselves as leaders and innovators.
It's full STEAM ahead for my Scholars!
I am currently working as a the grade teacher in a culturally and socioeconomically diverse neighborhood outside of Chicago. During the years I have spent at teaching I have developed a deep belief of the essential elements necessary to effectuate change in the climate and culture of a school and a classroom and this has solidified my understanding of effective and positive classroom management strategies, and has encouraged me to find creative methods for increasing rigor and engagement during lessons. I believe crating a Makerspace will give my Scholars a critical opportunity to apply what they are learning by imagining, collaborating, and creating.
My students need to build our classroom makerspace with Engino, K'nex, Qubits, and an all-media art supply kit to go full STEAM ahead. We are going to build our classroom makerspace to include some challenges and projects that students can work on by using t Makey Makey, craft supplies, and circuits. It is a great way for students to get experience, inspiration, learn, and have structure as they make and invent.
Scholars will design and create all new products with their innovative ideas.
The versatility of these items will allow students to dive into their creative minds and design things they want and need. The art supplies will give students creative license and highlight how important it is to include Art with STEM, to make STEAM.
