Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

During the months of May and June in our urban classroom, temperatures can reach up to 90 degrees. I am asking for the fans and water bottles to help keep my students cool and hydrated during the school day. Studies show that when a student is physically uncomfortable during class time, learning doesn't take place. I have seen students become lethargic due to high classroom temperatures, and as we all know, it is dangerous when children become dehydrated.

Secondly, as you know, students have been incorporating technology into the learning on a daily basis.

The more i-pads we have randomly plugged into wall outlets, the more energy it wastes. We would like to have these charging stations in place not only to conserve energy, but also to ensure that each student can come to school with the promise of a working device.

Lastly, we all know that we face unprecedented and uncertain times insofar as urban children feeling safe in their school environment. Lockdowns, and evacuations are happening on an almost daily basis. This lockdown kit will help to be sure that if ANY sort of emergency should arise, we will be prepared, and most importantly, my students will feel safe, loved, and protected.
