I have been teaching at Matheson Junior High School since the beginning of the school's history. Our junior high is located in Magna, Utah. The students here are in need of good books in their hands. There is not a book store anywhere near our school, and the students come in reading on average 2 plus grades behind where they should be.
For my project, I would love to be able to build on my classroom library to get my students excited about reading and try and raise their overall reading comprehension skills.
I want my students to know that reading can be fun!!
My Project
A good book can help calm the mind and distract students from all their worries. My students need to be able to get books in their hands. This is something that many of them to do have at home.
Students can spend time reading a good book and be able to relate to characters within the books and learn how others overcome challenges and obstacles in life.
When a student has nothing to do they can find themself bored which may lead them to doing things they should not be doing.
One book can "hook" a student to become a lifetime reader. One book at a time is all it takes.
