It's All About That Base-10

My students need hands-on base 10 blocks to learn and solidify their understanding of place value. This is a key concept in number sense development.

My Students

Our students come from a very diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. My students are creative, fun-loving, and really enjoy using hands-on materials. My school is new and will be going into its 2nd year in 2017-2018, we are still acquiring basic tools to meet students' needs.

The kiddos in my class are playful, imaginative and love to make meaningful connections to the world around them.

In every way I can, I love to support students develop relationships and become problem-solvers.

My Project

My students need hands-on tools to understand place value concepts to 100 and beyond. For many students, they need to hold and manipulate concrete tools to frame and solidify their thinking. These hands-on blocks for students and magnets for modeling will be available for kids to use on a daily basis.

Base-10 activities are an everyday practice in our room and kids will be able to access these tools in shared caddies.

I already own games, puzzles, boards and books to support these concepts, but I just don't have enough blocks for students to practice with larger, more complex numbers. The blocks requested here will allow all students to extend use into 3-digit addition and subtraction.
