It’s Alive! The Tale of a Small Town Makerspace

My students need tools and supplies to transform the objects of their imaginations into tangible models in our makerspace club.

My Students

Our kids are bursting with neurodiversity and embody curiosity and LOVE science. They smile, laugh, and dig deep. They relish experimenting and expanding their knowledge.

I hear time and time again how excited the kids are about coming to school because they are free to explore the magic of how the world works.

Parents are so grateful for these opportunities, especially since our school is Title I. These types of experiences require pecuniary contributions and, sometimes, miracles. Our school family contributes what they can, but some things are simply beyond our reach.

My Project

At our school, we strive to give our kids opportunities to explore their passions. One area we’re working hard to improve centers on enhancing opportunities to explore the sciences. More to the point, we are looking to build an after school makerspace/coding club where the kids will be able to indulge their curiosities as they explore and create.

In this program, we will be providing students with instruction, collaboration, and support as they endeavor to bring their creations to life; from basic robot design to simple machines and beyond, we endeavor to follow their lead and support them wherever the path shall lead us.

With this said, we need a little support getting started. We have been blessed by local community groups and individual donations, but we still need a few treasures.

For instance, we are in need of tools like wire cutters, glue guns, and special scissors for cutting through thick cardboard. We also need basic supplies to help us explore circuitry, robotics, & pneumatics/hydraulics such as syringes, tubing, gears, pulleys, and wire.
