It's Alive! An Investigation of Seeds and Eggs.

Help me give my students an incubator, chick brooder, seed grow window and books about the chicken and seed lifecycle so we can compare and contrast the survival needs of living things.

My Students

Our kindergartens come in with an eagerness to explore and learn more about the world around them. They are especially curious about plants and animals.

I raise my own chickens at my house and talk about them with my students who love hearing, reading and writing about them.

I still remember hatching eggs in the classroom when I was in the first grade back in 1977! I would love to provide this experience for my students.

My Project

One of the exciting Kindergarten Science Standards asks us to help the students compare and contrast the survival needs of all living things. I want to encourage that in a hands-on way by actually hatching eggs and growing seeds so that students can see what the similarities and differences are in two different types of living things. Last year we started this with hands on investigation of just seeds. The students loved planting and watching the seeds grow.

It will be mind blowing for them to be able to candle eggs and watch a chicken grow and hatch and actually see how the seeds grow!
