This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach high school functional academics. We are tasked with getting our students ready for the transition to adulthood. Our curriculum teaches core academics/ skills as they will be used in real life.
We prepare our students to live as independently as possible and for their future career goals.
Sitting, listening and reading about the skills isn’t enough, they need hands-on real-life experience. I love seeing the light bulb moments when a new skill clicks and they start to see their future goals within reach.
My Project
Learning to tell and manage time is a hugely important skill for adult life. Unfortunately, it is also a very difficult, abstract skill to learn. Telling time helps my high school students gain their independence and some control over their schedules.
As teenagers working towards adulthood, telling time is an important skill.
But telling time can be really tricky to learn when one has a disability. Being able to read a clock impacts pretty much every aspect of our life, both personal and professional.
Having hands-on materials to work with time helps our students get a good picture of what time is and how it works in our everyday life.
