With these books, my students learned how to analyze a memoir through both a literary and historical lens. They practiced skills like annotating for theme and symbolism, making inferences about tone and perspective, and discussed complex moral and ethical questions that come up in Wiesel's account.\r\n\r\nOur reading time has transformed. Instead of flipping through photocopies or sharing worn-out classroom copies, each student can engage with the text in their own book—highlighting passages, jotting notes in sticky tabs, and revisiting powerful moments during class discussions. This has allowed us to have richer, more meaningful conversations about survival, resilience, and the importance of remembering history.\r\n\r\nSome of the most reluctant readers in my class have been among the most engaged. One student who usually avoids reading out loud volunteered to read an entire chapter to the class because, as she said, \"This book feels like someone's really talking to me.\" Another student has been researching historical events mentioned in Night on his own time, eager to understand the context even more deeply.\r\n\r\nYour donation didn't just provide books—it created opportunities for empathy, critical thinking, and a deeper connection to history. You've helped my students see that reading can be both a personal journey and a shared conversation, and for that, I can't thank you enough.","fullyFundedDate":1744252160984,"projectUrl":"project/illuminating-the-darkness-empowering-st/9135220/","projectTitle":"Illuminating the Darkness: Empowering Students with Elie Wiesel's Night","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Taylor","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5079403_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1740690347749","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5079403"},{"teacherId":9863093,"projectId":9002443,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your support — your kindness made an immediate difference in our classroom!\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, we were able to provide every student with the supplies they needed to feel confident and prepared. From pencils and notebooks to classroom decorations that made the space feel welcoming and inspiring, your donation helped create a learning environment where everyone could thrive.\r\n\r\nWhen the students walked in and saw the freshly decorated classroom and their individual materials ready for them, their faces lit up. One student said, \"I've never had my own set of stuff before — this is so cool!\" It was a powerful reminder of how the little things can mean so much.\r\n\r\nHaving access to these resources has helped eliminate the stress some students feel when they don't have the basics. Now, everyone is on equal footing, ready to participate and engage. The classroom feels more like a community — organized, colorful, and filled with pride.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be using these supplies for our ongoing projects, journals, and creative assignments. Because everyone is equipped with what they need, we can focus on learning, collaborating, and expressing ourselves without barriers.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us build a space where students feel seen, supported, and excited to learn. As a first-year teacher, creating a welcoming space where every student feels supported was really important to me — and your donations helped make that possible.\r\n\r\nOne of the first moments that stood out was during our multimedia poster project, where students designed creative text-based posters inspired by famous graphic designers. For the first time, everyone had access to the materials they needed — markers, poster boards, and other supplies — without worrying about sharing limited resources or bringing their own. It made a huge difference. Students were fully engaged, and some who are usually quiet really surprised me with their creativity.\r\n\r\nRight now, students are working on their multimedia focus projects — everything from designing t-shirts and creating short films to working on a school newsletter. The classroom feels like a true creative space now, and the supplies you helped provide continue to support every project we take on.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be preparing for a field trip to the Walt Disney Family Museum, where students will learn about storytelling and animation. Thanks to the welcoming environment we've built, students feel ready to explore new ideas and continue creating amazing work.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us start this year strong — it means more than you know!","fullyFundedDate":1733795358136,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-safe-and-supportive-classroom/8989491/","projectTitle":"Building a Safe and Supportive Classroom from Scratch","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kile","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9863093_orig.jpg?crop=2047,2047,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756524598186","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9863093"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_5034","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1899,"numTeachers":96,"percentFrplEligible":82,"percentAsian":11,"percentBlack":14,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":58,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"19.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":70.1,"schoolId":5034,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Armijo High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Armijo High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/fairfield-suisun-unified-school-district/armijo-high-school/5034"}
