My Project
Transitioning to middle school is an exciting time for students but often times, students struggle with acceptance from their peers. There are countless reasons to read the book, Wonder by R.J. Palacio but I would like to use it for both Language Arts content standards, as well as social emotional learning for students.
The book offers opportunities for appreciating diversity, vocabulary acquisition, point of view, plot structure, and plenty of discussion topics.
Since our first writing task of the year is a narrative, I also feel the development of themes and relationships in this selection will align nicely with setting students up for developing their own plot. Additionally, our language arts theme for quarter 1 is titled, Hidden Truths, so this would be an ideal long read to supplement our course work.
