Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Being at our school for several years, I have gotten the chance to really get to know many of the students in the school, including those I have never taught. Many of them have gone through seriously adverse situations and misfortunes that impact their everyday life, especially their education. I am amazed at how resilient they can be, and how they push through to the best of their abilities regardless of hardships that affect them. Being a fifth-grade teacher has shown me how fast some students have to mature. I have taught their younger siblings in previous years (coming up from kindergarten and first grade) and see how they take care of their family. Each child that I have gotten to know at this school has my heart.
I want nothing but the best for all of these students, and that includes giving them hands-on experiences that will be memorable to them.
My students need to be able to feel like school isn't another one of their draining duties or work. I want All of them to enjoy school and look forward to each day in my class.
My Project
This upcoming school year is going to be a new experience for many, especially my students and me. It is official that the Fall will commence with a virtual learning set-up, but I don't want that to stop the love of learning that always happened in my class! I want to do my best to normalize the current situation for both my students and me. Although the materials I am requesting won't make up for being face-to-face in the classroom, it will help for a smoother transition into virtual learning.
Virtual learning isn't ideal, but I am striving to give my students an experience that will still get them excited each day to learn.
I intend to use resources from Teachers Pay Teachers that can allow engaging activities, even through the computer. I can use these pre-made resources for skill review, games, and even find fun fonts that will make powerpoints more appealing. This year's basics may be different, but they will still be necessary.
