it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I'm a third year teacher who will be teaching 7th and 8th grade social studies for the first time! New bookcases in my classroom will play a critical role in helping students stay organized, focused, and academically prepared throughout the school year. By providing clearly designated storage for textbooks, notebooks, primary source materials, and classroom supplies, the bookcases will reduce clutter and help maintain an orderly learning environment. This is especially helpful for students who are ELL, on IEPs, or 504s. This organization supports student independence, encourages responsibility, and maximizes instructional time by minimizing distractions and time lost searching for materials. For many students, especially those who may struggle with executive functioning or lack organizational support at home, a well-structured classroom can make a significant difference in their academic success and confidence. Additionally, the presence of well-maintained bookcases demonstrates a commitment to a quality learning space, which fosters pride in the classroom and motivates students to engage more fully in their studies.
In addition to providing organization skills, surrounding students with images that reflect global unity, the decorations encourage curiosity, respect, and a broader understanding of the world beyond their own experiences.
Bright and warm classrooms help students feel secure and calm when learning. A pop of light, pastel color will help students feel more welcome and invited into the classroom. I chose the “It’s a Small World” vibe of decorations to help foster diversity and multicultural learning by celebrating the unique traditions, clothing, and languages of people from around the globe in a joyful and inclusive way. These visuals create a welcoming environment where students can recognize and appreciate cultural differences while also identifying common human values such as friendship, and community. It initiates their curiosity to learn about social studies, ultimately supporting their civic learning and literacy.
