This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at an elementary school where every child matters. School is often students' "safe place" where they know they will be fed and loved by all the teachers around them. Every day the teachers are here for the students because sometimes we are the only constant thing in their lives.

At our school, we want all students to succeed no matter what obstacles they have in their way.

Many of our students struggle with broken homes struggling lives. When education isn't the number one priority in the household, we as teachers have to teach students to be self-motivated and develop a love for learning or determination in everything that they do.

My Project

TES is fortunate enough to have the ability to offer a wide variety of sports for our young athletes. Students can run cross country, play tackle football, wrestle and play baseball all for the school's athletic program. With the sports programs, we are able to teach the students dedication, responsibility, and good sportsmanship. Many students use sports as their outlet to their home lives or other problems that they may have.

Bo Jackson once said, "Set your goals high and don't stop till you get there".

At TES, we encourage our students to reach for their goals and surpass them. We want all students to be able to try out and be part of the team. Where we struggle is our equipment. Some sports require a lot more equipment than just a ball or some shoes.

Our students have long excelled in sports like basketball, football, volleyball, and track. You will often see our kids on the courts or fields over the weekend because all that's needed is a ball. Sports like baseball and softball require much more equipment. This equipment is often expensive and not always accessible. Many of our students simply do not have the means to purchase equipment needed to play these sports. With the funding of this project, both our teams, baseball and softball would benefit. The pitching machine allows us to have batting practice in a way that truly benefits athlete skills. We often have to go up against schools with players who have played travel ball for years. This machine would help our school get to the same level of other schools and players who have had more experience with the game.
