Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Technology is everywhere around us! Imagine sitting in your classroom in the morning and knowing that you are still struggling with comprehension of a scientific topic. Wouldn't it be nice to have a tablet that helps you when you need it?
As the new school year begins, I am very excited to have my new group of students.
Since our school is small, we are a very close-knit community where the teachers in the building know all the students and the students know all the teachers. I have seen these students grow since kindergarten, and I have watched their eagerness to learn and grow each year. These 21st century learners need 21st century tools. Our school is located in a high poverty area with a high concentration of minority groups. Many of the students in our school have little to no access to technology at home. In order to prepare these students for the new common core curriculum and for the future we need different forms of technology that will allow them to excel.
My Project
In our classroom we have computers that run very slowly or don't work at all. Having tablets in our classroom would allow students to use them for many different purposes. In today's tablet-based world there are so many apps that can help students of different learning levels. Students that may struggle with scientific topics could choose a learning game on the tablet that can allow them to be interactive and connect with characters that teach of them what they need to know. The tablets could also be used for group-based projects where each group is researching a different topic. The possibilities are endless!
