It's A Fraction Frenzy

Help me give my students new measurement and fraction manipulatives so we can use hands-on learning activities as we introduce our third graders to fractions!

My Project

I'm confident that these learning materials will significantly impact my students' learning in mathematics during our fractions unit. One of the most important things that a special education teacher can do is provide a productive learning environment that accommodates everyone's needs. Having access to these learning materials will support my students by creating a more inclusive learning environment during math centers.

Not only will all students get the opportunity to use hands-on learning tools to solve math problems, but also they will be able to use these representations to explain their reasoning about fractions.

The materials requested in this project include math manipulatives, such as the Rainbow Fraction Squares, the Balance Weights Set, and the Plastic Rainbow Fraction Tiles, to help students master the most difficult fraction concepts in grade 3 including: identifying fractions, generating equivalent fractions, comparing fractions, and representing fractions on a number line. Specifically, this project includes the following math tools: fraction bars, blank fraction bars, fraction squares, fraction circles, and a metric measurement set.

I am hoping to have this set of math manipulatives in our classroom so that when students work together they can be engaged while teaching each other new concepts. All of these materials will directly support our students acquisition of the standards required in our grade 3 unit of study on fractions. These are hands-on tools that students can manipulate to illustrate different math concepts related to fractions. These will be used so that students have a concrete representation of the abstract concepts being taught during our lessons.
