it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Help students become field ecologists by observing the birds in our school yard. Recently my ecology students have had a lot of questions about birds and I want to build on their interests while teaching them key field ecologists skills. In the Spring my three ecology classes of Juniors and Seniors will start a month long ornithology investigation of birds in the school yard. These birds may need a little encouragement to visit our classes, so like any good host we would like to feed our guests so we can get a closer look.
Using binoculars and field guides students will identify bird species that also call our neighborhood home.
Talking with students about their interests, many students became interested in watching birds during quarantine. They do not know their species or how to identify their species, bird migration patterns, or the difference between male and females of the same species. Our project will help build field ecology skills in students and help students learn more about the species that call our urban neighborhood home.
