Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in my class are mostly children which live in low income homes. Their parents are mostly immigrants that struggle daily to make ends meet. Due to this, most of these children do not have the funds necessary to have computers or laptops at home, and look forward to using these items at school.
Being able to use technology to learn in school one of the highlights everyday for the students in my class.
My students describe the days that we are scheduled to use the computer lab as "the best day EVER!". I have never seen a group of kids be so excited when being able to use technology as these 5 and 6 year olds.
My Project
We currently just have 3 computers in a class where there are 18 students. This means that not all students get to learn with technology on a daily basis. My students have just began using the computer program named iReady, and they enjoying learning reading and math with this program. By just using this program for a few sessions, you can begin to see the academic growth in the students and you can clearly see how fast they are becoming familiar with technology. By receiving these additional laptops, and headphones, the chance that each student will be able to use a computer everyday would double. I believe that giving these students the chance to use technology on a daily basis will better prepare them for the future and help them advance academically much faster.
