My Project
I teach in a self contained special education classroom, grades 3-5. Our students have diverse abilities.
A carpeted area supports kinesthetic learning and allows for flexible seating and movement, which accommodates a variety of learning styles and needs.
Some of our students may spend time on the floor for various activities including floor-based learning, play therapy, and movement breaks.
Our students enjoy engagement activities on their Chromebooks. Headphones help block out background noise, allowing them to concentrate better on their tasks, whether it's reading, writing, or completing digital assignments. Some students with sensory processing disorders, including those on the autism spectrum, may be sensitive to sound. Noise-canceling headphones can help them feel calmer and more comfortable in busy classroom environments, preventing sensory overload.
A magnetic, dry erase board would be beneficial in our classroom. The ability to attach and manipulate magnetic letters and pictures will helps students participate in lessons more actively. This tactile and kinesthetic interaction is particularly helpful for students with attention difficulties or sensory needs.
