This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
RHE is a Title I school. We receive federal funds to provide extra help for all of our students. Currently my class consists of 12 girls and 6 boys. These numbers will change with each new incoming class.
I try very hard to maintain a positive atmosphere in my classroom though there are many obstacles that make it difficult.
Home life for some of these children is not a positive one. Some parents are incarcerated and live with other family members. Poverty is also an issue in the area.
All the items needed in our classroom is to raise reading and math levels to and above grade level. These items will be used year after year to help support children learn. It will help in small group interventions and help individual students that may need extra support. Currently, we have 20 outdated laptops to share with 5 other classrooms. This makes it difficult to get consistent time on technology.
There is a need in our entire school but I'd like to begin in our second grade classroom.
My Project
Many of the learning tools I currently use are teacher made. They become broken and unusable. The items chosen will be more durable and easy to use.
My students love The Magic Tree House books, but unfortunately I do not have all the books and we read whatever we can get our hands on.
Having the library of books will make it more exciting since we would be able to read the series in order. We do comprehension activities after every book.
The book bins are needed because my students are able to pick 5-6 books to read throughout the week. Having them keep the books in their desks are causing the books to rip and break. The bins will help keep books protected and placed in an other area that is not their desk.
Classroom rugs are expensive and very needed in our classroom. With this rug I can bring the students to another area in the classroom that is not just their desks.
