My Students

By the end of the year, I want all of my second graders on or above a 3rd grade reading and math level. I want to provide a variety of learning experiences in the classroom that will support differentiated instruction. This will help me meet the individual needs of every student.

I teach in a Title 1 school located in a large urban area.

Currently my school district is facing a huge budget crisis and we have very limited resources and staff. I have an energetic group of second graders who love to learn! They are hungry for knowledge and thrive in a rigorous teaching environment. I make the majority of my teaching resources. I have a variety of learning games that are designed to meet their individual needs. The challenge is, I have very limited access to technology. I only have two working computers in my classroom. In addition to providing them with better access to the Internet and all of its valuable resources, I would also like to incorporate ebooks, lessons involving QR codes, and teaching applications that can be found on a tablet or iPad.

My Project

I am able to work with small groups during my reading instruction, which allows me to work individually with students on important skills and concepts. While I work with a small group of learners, the other students visit a variety of learning stations. By helping our classroom purchase two iPad minis, my students will have the opportunity to access technology during these rotations. While working in small groups, my students will have the opportunity to play learning games, listen to and/or read an ebook, and access the Internet. My English Language Learners (students who are learning English) will have the an interactive learning experience that will support their language development. My students who have a difficult time with basic math concepts will be able to play interactive games that will reinforce key concepts. Overall, my students will have an enhanced learning experience.

Students LOVE technology and constantly ask for more opportunities on the computer. By helping us purchase two iPad minis, my students will have more opportunities to interact with technology. This will help to improve their reading and math skills and most importantly, it will make my students HAPPY!
