My Students

Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world. -- Archimedes. The right tools (the lever) and the students with the desire and curiosity to explore (the fulcrum) together will indeed change the world.

My classroom contains 22 curious minds that are truly excited about learning.

Our school contains a large numbers of English language learners. Most qualify for free or reduced lunch. The excitement in the classroom spirals when they have the opportunity to use mathematical and scientific tools with their own hands. They are quite eager to learn.

My Project

Our school district adopted a new math and science curriculum this year. With the new curriculum, comes the need for new tools. The spring scales will give them the opportunity to practice and hone their estimation skills using standard and nonstandard tools to measure. Thermometers, on the other hand, give them the chance to learn to not only read the temperature but the chance to gather data and observe temperature changes over time. The literature in this project will be used as a fun way to support multiple second grade mathematical academic standards.

The tools in this project will provide valuable opportunities for the students to explore concepts in a hands-on manner.

Concrete learning experiences help the students make the connections between academic concepts and real world applications. The literature becomes a tool for improving reading skills while simultaneously supporting learning in a fun way for our future mathematicians and scientists.
