My Project
What books do you remember reading as a class, when you were in school? Was is "Charlotte's Web" or "Where The Red Fern Grows"? Did your eyes well up when Old Yeller had to be put down? Or were you cheering when Winn Dixie sneezed from under the table after India Opal and her father scoured the area during a raging thunderstorm? While we all agree reading can transport us, there is something even stronger when we read as a community. That is the heart of our DonorsChoose.org project.
We are daring to wish for a school set of the novel "The Wishtree" by Katherine Applegate so that our entire school can experience the magic of this phenomenal story.
Our middle school is incredibly unique. We have five elementary schools that feed into our building, which brings students from diverse social and economic backgrounds. We promote an environment where all are welcome and respected.
In her book, Katherine Applegate explores the changes that occur within a neighborhood over four decades, as told through a large red oak tree. The text explores racism, diversity, and the strength of standing up for what is right.
We would love to place a copy of Katherine Applegate's book, "The Wishtree" in the hands of each student at our school. With your help, each student will experience the joy and magic of this incredible text, which is sure to leave long and lasting memories in their hearts.
