My Students
I work with awesome kids who have special needs. They participate in an Early Childhood Special Education Kindergarten Program. My students have Individualized Education Plans based on their special needs such as Autism and Speech and Language Delays. They attend a public school in a high poverty district.
My students work hard and are thriving in the areas of Math, Reading, Writing, Social Skills and Language Development.
They work hard daily to achieve their goals and I am proud to be their teacher!
My Project
My special needs students attend school on a public school campus. On rainy days, parents are able to walk their child to class. However, most of my students are bused to school. Our classroom is in the front of the campus, but our buses come in the far back of the school. On rainy days, my students walk across campus without any protection from the elements. We adults try to protect them under our umbrellas, but this is impossible with the number of kids to adult ratio. We go through the same scenario on the way home.
Inevitably many students end up wet and uncomfortable.
This is no way to start or end the school the day. I want to empower my kids with the responsibility of holding their own umbrellas to stay dry as we walk across campus.
