This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a class of energetic and creative learners. They love science and fiction, but don’t have a access to current events reading at their level. My two classes of sixty-six fourth graders are voracious readers. They give a cheer when it is time to pick up a book to read independently and are disappointed when it is time to put their books away. Though they have a love of reading the two groups struggle while reading non-fiction books. The vocabulary is a challenge and new. Having the informational text access would help to improve their reading levels and fuel their love and desire to read.
My Project
My students are excited to learn and eager readers. They don’t lack the motivation to read, but they do lack access to a variety of non-fiction resources. The print and digital magazine will provide students with the resources to increase their reading level, deepen comprehension, and expand vocabulary.
The Time magazines will be used in class for lessons, close reading, and homework.
They will have exposure to academic vocabulary that enhances their writing, current events and science in rich and exciting way. The project will allow them access to the world outside of their neighborhood which they currently do not have, but deserve. This will allow me to fulfill my promise to them that I will do all that I can to prepare them to take over the world someday.
