This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We are a school on the far northeast side of Chicago where 100% of the students receive free lunch. Due to the lack of funding, I am not able to buy any new books for my 6th grade Language Arts classroom. We are trying to improve test scores and prepare for the new Common Core assessments, but we do not have the resources we need. Our students are wonderful and work extremely hard. They often comment on our lack of quality reading materials, and it is easy to see their disappointment. As I add more high-interest books to our library, I'm finding my high-level readers are complaining they don't have anything to read.

My students need a fun way to learn English as second language.

Whether you are a native English speaker or are learning English as a second language, learning English is difficult! Games about grammar and parts of speech make learning fun and easy!

Learning English is hard, but doing it as a second language in middle school is even harder! Many of my students are English Language Learners and struggle to learn proper grammar and how to use the parts of speech. Worksheets and repetition gets boring! If I can make learning fun for them I know they will be more successful! I have found games that are age appropriate for middle schoolers, but also subject appropriate for English Language Learners who struggle with the basics of English Language Arts! The more they practice the more successful they will be in school and therefore in life!
