This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are curious, motivated and thoughtful! The majority are ENLs who come into our classroom everyday with the eagerness of becoming feature leaders, scientist, artist, etc.. They are big dreamers and believe in that they can make a difference and achieve their goals I f the support and the opportunity is given to them. They love to read, draw, and do hands on activities!
As English language learners, books are so important to my students and are truly valued.
Our school library is an essential resource for my students. Many of my students do not have access to books at home and rely on our school library to check out high-quality books.
Each day students inquire when the newest books by their favorite authors will be added to the library and if they can be first to check out these books. There is a buzz about books and an excitement for reading in our school.
My Project
These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy. I read on the carpet to them, they complete work there, and they read independently! Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind, language of their choice. I have watched them the past few weeks of school read titles just like these.
With these books, my students will be able to choose books at their different reading levels and the language of their choice, which will help them continue to enjoy reading and develop literacy skills and language.
They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
