I have amazing, wonderful students. They happen to have special education needs such as; attentional difficulties and emotional and/or learning problems. They come from a very low income area and they have many economic as well as academic obstacles to overcome. My kiddos are in the 3rd and 4th grade. They thrive on positive reinforcement and attention.
Our school is a title 1 school and we serve the lowest income demographic group in our city.
These families do the best they can with what they have and I love finding ways to motivate and encourage my students.
My Project
My students' special needs provides them the ability to use a calculator on state mandated tests. Practicing with these calculators throughout the year will help them to be prepared to use them during testing. They can set up and solve equations without minor errors making them miss an entire math problem. The cash register will provide real world calculator practice and skills.
My students can each have a calculator at their desk if this project is funded.
The cash register will help me to make learning fun! Using roll play is a great way to teach students how to find the sum, the difference and teach money skills that can be useful in employment situations in the future.
I appreciate you taking the time to consider funding this project for my very wonderful, delightfully special needs students.
