It All Begins in Kindergarten!

Help me give my students materials for small groups, such as CVC flashcards and CVC word builders, as well as classroom incentives like desk pets and treasure box rewards.

My Project

A year of distance learning and the challenges that came along with COVID-19 had teachers missing the best part of their job: STUDENTS! Having them back in the classroom has us jumping for joy and brainstorming all the ways we can help them get back on track with both their social-emotional and academic learning.

Materials such as magnetic ten frames, CVC blending cards, and CVC word games will help students learn in small groups while having fun and feeling capable.

Students can physically stretch slinkies and push them together to help them take apart sounds and then blend them to make words. They will also use miniature erasers housed in containers at their desks for counting and acting out addition and subtraction problems.

Classroom incentives like a desk pet in a cupcake holder home or a reward from the treasure box can help to promote and reinforce positive behaviors, words, and acts of kindness as students develop and learn appropriate social skills.

Finally, classroom materials such as cardstock, construction paper, and popsicle sticks will be used by students for their projects and crafts throughout the year.
