Our school is a very small, rural school 10 miles from the nearest gas station. There are less than 200 students from Kindergarten through 12th grade, with a little over half using the free or reduced-price lunch program. Since we are such a small community, we are also a very close-knit community, with support for the arts and sports just flowing in. The small community allows for more individualized attention to students, and all teachers work together to help our students to be kind, respectful, and responsible members of society.
Music is a passion for many of our students, parents, and community members.
Over 95% of students and parents attend our concerts, with the overwhelming majority of 5th-7th graders participating in band. All of our students strive for excellence in their performances and excitedly perform for their families, friends, and all members of the community. Each and every day, students are excited to come to music or band class, a place where they can be creative and expressive in their own way!
My Project
My students are currently unable to fully utilize all of our instruments, because of missing or old mouthpieces. Many of our mouthpieces are missing their hypoallergenic nickel plating because of their age, so we need to replace them. The metals exposed from the nickel wearing off are not hypoallergenic and may cause a reaction. We would use these mouthpieces daily, both in class and at home for practice.
We are a growing program, so every instrument and accessory is needed.
We are currently using the older mouthpieces, which will continue to age and may become unusable in the near future because of exposed metals. In order to keep my students protected and performing, we need these mouthpieces.
