This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am an art educator at a public school in central Arkansas. We are a Title 1 school and seventy-one percent of the students receive free or reduced lunches. Many students come from low income families and have very little experience with Visual Arts outside of school. Therefore, without art class, the majority of my students will never experience different mediums other than drawing. At first, many of my students think art is only drawing. I want my students to experience other mediums so they can broaden their successes in and outside of the art class.
My Project
The majority of my students have not experienced anything more than drawing in Art. I will be using the Inovart Printfoam to teach the students block printing so they can see how the process works before using the Blick Blue Easy-To-Cut blocks.
Since the process will be new to nearly every student, it's important to practice the process with less expensive materials.
The water-soluble inks, the Speedball Soft Rubber Brayers, and the Blick Economy Barens will be used with the practice foam sheets as well as the final project. The Blick Blue Easy-To-Cut Class Pack and the Easy-to-Cut blocks will only be used for the final project, after they have mastered the printing process with the foam sheets. The Blick Foamboard Pack will be used for mounting artworks that will be entered into different contests around the state.
These printmaking materials will help students think creatively, practice safety while working, and build all-around self-confidence.
