Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class consists of 28 first grade students who are at varying levels and abilities. Each day, they come to school motivated and excited to learn. Our school population consists of most students receiving free or reduced lunch, since we are a high poverty school. School is a happy place for them where they feel safe and comfortable.
I would love to for students to have flexible seating, so they are not be confined to a desk.
Flexible seating chairs will allow students to move around the room and work comfortably without sitting on a cold, hard floor.
My Project
Can you imagine sitting on a hard floor or cracked chair for the majority of your day? A flexible seating couch and flexible chairs will allow up to 6 students at a time to work comfortably. Currently I have 2 hand me down “comfy” chairs in my classroom that students race to, to do their work.
Students all have different learning styles.
Some prefer to work alone, others with a group. Flexible seating will allow both options to happen. Sometimes students who prefer to work alone are confined to his or her desk and a flexible chair will allow them to find the perfect spot in our classroom.
