Imagine going on vacation to a foreign country where you don't speak the language. It would be exciting, but also frustrating and probably a little scary at times. For my students, that "vacation" is every day life.
My ESOL students come from a variety of different countries and speak several different languages.
They are eager to learn English, but acquiring a new language can be a long and difficult process. When they are not with me, they often slip into their idle mode because they cannot comprehend the language and what is going on in their classroom.
My Project
Because we don't want them to waste their valuable learning time, we are requesting an iPad, with a protection plan, and case, that will be used to help keep them engaged in school when I, their ESOL teacher, am not in their classrooms. I will assign them to various learning apps that will keep their mind engaged in the subject at hand. I will be checking in with them every day to make sure that they are making the best use of the iPad. They will also be using the iPad for a simple website that will make a BIG difference in their learning - Google Translate.
Learning to speak English is a major priority for my students.
I want to make sure that they aren't losing a minute of learning time while they are in school each day. An iPad could go such a long way toward maximizing their learning time. Please help my students!
