Help me give my students materials and games for indoor and outdoor recess as we foster social and emotional skills while working and playing together collaboratively.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are energetic 7-9-year-old kids with an excitement and thirst for learning. The students are entering the classroom this school year after being home and having school virtually for the last year and a half. Some of the children have spent their life right outside the city, while others are immigrants adapting to a new language and culture. They amaze me every day with their curiosity and positive attitude.
Although my students are in second grade, the last time they were in school was when they were in Kindergarten.
The social, emotional, and academic toll of the quarantine was felt acutely here, as with schools across the country. We are working to repair unfinished learning from the pandemic as well as keep the children engaged in the learning process. We are working on building friendships within a classroom community.
Our classroom has great diversity, but we are a low-income school. The majority of the students receive free or reduced-price lunches. I am fortunate enough to have a classroom full of students with a thirst for learning, appreciation for school and a positive mindset.
My Project
Every student's favorite time of the school day is recess. Some of the most creative and memorable moments for the students in my inclusion classroom have happened while at recess. I have personally observed my students help their peers, use their imagination, demonstrate problem solving skills, use negotiation skills, and interact and play with each other in a meaningful way to them. This year, recess looks different with Covid-19 protocols. My classroom rotates where they play during recess to limit interaction with other classrooms. We are either in the classroom, in a field, on a basketball court, or on a playground. These recess materials will foster students in engaging in cooperative play during recess time without relying on the playground.
Recess time is an opportunity for my students to develop critical life skills such as conflict resolution and teamwork.
Floor puzzles promote perseverance as well as working cooperatively. Balls and mitts promote cooperation and sharing. All of these materials promote crucial communication skills, that become fundamental, lifelong, personal tools. I have seen the magic that can happen during recess time and I am hoping to foster these social and emotional skills even more with these materials!
