Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at our school are a group of sweet and spunky Kindergarten through 5th graders. Students come into the building hugging, high-fiving, and happy to see their teachers and other support staff who truly care about them. We are a Title 1 school with all of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch. Our school has found itself increasingly responsible for supplying many basic needs for students.

Many of our students lack the basic resources at home that would allow them to be truly successful in the classroom.

Behind their smiles and high fives, they are hungry, tired, and stressed. These truly special students deserve extra support to help them through the day.

My Project

Imagine walking towards your favorite restaurant. As you get closer and closer, you imagine what you are going to eat, how it is going to taste, and how great that is going to be. When you turn the corner, they put a closed sign right in front of the drive-thru. Your whole day turns into a panic because you had your mind set on that chicken sandwich.

This is how many of our students feel every morning when they get to school and see the "breakfast is closed, please go to class" sign.

Without the resources to get themselves to school, students rely on their parents to get them to school early enough for breakfast. Often times they become very upset when they realize they have not come early enough to eat, and rightly so! Please help our school have snacks available not only for students who missed breakfast, but for students who appear hungry throughout the day.
