Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are English language learners who need the resources to look up words when they need to spell them or know what they mean. Also, teaching antonyms, synonyms, and homographs is very hard without a book to find them in.
My students are a fun group of 10 year-olds.
They enjoy reading and spelling, but need the support of materials like dictionaries and thesauruses to help them build their knowledge of the English language. Right now we are working on transitions, word roots and building their spelling repertoire. Having grade level appropriate dictionaries sure would make it easy for my students to find the words they need. By using a thesaurus they will gain so much useful knowledge by being able to replace the words they do know, with ones that are novel and exciting, therefore, increasing their vocabulary .
My Project
I am asking for 20 thesauruses and 5 dictionaries for my classroom library. This will be just enough for them to share the resources and make good use of them. Reading books and using print resources are not out of date, they are still a very valuable asset to any classroom.
My project is so important because it gives my students access to materials that they need to improve their vocabularies and writing skills.
I believe it is very important to expose children to various print sources in order to build strong, life-long learners.
