This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the best job in the world! I have the privilege of working with 20 Pre-Kindergarten students who come to school every day with a sense of curiosity and wonder about the world they live in. It is my privilege to use their inquisitiveness to help prepare them for the world that we live in, a world that requires an understanding of how to use technology.

I start each school day with warm hugs and beautiful smiles from 20 Pre-K students.

Although my students are a diverse group of children who come from all types of cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, they share a universal love of technology. We have an interactive white board that I use every day and it is fascinating to see how much more engaged my students are in these particular lessons. Working with one interactive board and 20 children, however, limits each child's actual hands-on use of technology. Consequently, I would like to add four iPads to our classroom that the students can use during our Focused Instruction segment of the day which will allow them to strengthen their technology skills as well as targeted academic skills.

My Project

My students love to learn, especially when I incorporate technology by presenting the lesson on an interactive white board. Using one interactive white board with twenty students, however, limits the amount of time each individual student can interact with the white board.

Can you imagine how much more effectively students will learn through the use of technology when they can each learn on an iPad for a prolonged period of time?

Our daily schedule incorporates working with students in small groups during our Focused Instruction segment of the day. During this time, students work on academic skills targeted specifically to each student's academic needs. Adding four iPads to our classroom would allow me to provide each student with an iPad during small group instruction and allow him or her to use technology to strengthen academic skills targeted to each student's individual needs such as letter identification, letter sound recognition, phonics skills, number recognition, one to one correspondence, and the list goes on and on.
