My Students

Do you love to read? Help my students develop a love for reading through a listening center! Each child will experience the characters coming to life and being a part of a story as they listen to it. It will also encourage them to become better readers as they experience the stories in a new way.

I have 24 children in my first grade classroom.

Many of my students live in a single family home or are raised by a guardian with only one income or no income at all. Most of my students lack "worldly experiences" and are limited to what they experience in the classroom. Our school is located in a rural area and lacks a lot of funding due to it being a small district. We are desperately trying to provide them with a high quality education and equip them for a successful future, but are limited by the lack of funds.

My Project

So many of my students lack support at home. Everything that they learn about reading is taking place in the classroom. By implementing a listening center, I am providing them with another opportunity to develop a love for reading. I work with my students and I try to provide them with a variety of methods to develop their reading skills. The listening center will provide my students with one more, hands-on way to grow as a reader. They will experience books in a new, exciting way. They will be able to connect with the characters and experience the adventure with each character as they listen to the story. The listening center will also provide my students with technology skills since many of them do not have access to IPOD's at home. This will help prepare their future and help them be more successful.
